SCHOLARSHIPS
Miami Regional University offers a variety of scholarships. Qualified students are eligible to apply for the scholarships described below. Scholarships are limited in number and awarded at the University’s discretion to select students. Not all students who satisfy the eligibility criteria for a scholarship will be awarded scholarship funds.
Dr. Juan G. Solana Scholarship for Miami Regional University Students
Dr. Juan Gutierrez de la Solana, born in Havana, Cuba, in 1916, was a cardiologist who was loved and respected by his many patients and colleagues. The Castro regime did not allow him to leave Cuba, therefore, Dr. Solana escaped to the United States in a 17-foot boat, where he found freedom and was reunited with his three daughters. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Solana passed the Medical Board Exam, and began practicing at a hospital in Georgia, until he retired.
By the time he was able to establish his own practice, he felt that his age prevented him from becoming a cardiologist again in the United States. Dr. Solana, however, continued to work as a general practitioner, and dedicated his life to his passion for healing and helping others. In his memory, this scholarship is awarded to select outstanding foreign physicians, who seek the opportunity in the United States to pursue their passion to save lives and enhance the quality of life for others through the practice of nursing or the medical arts in a related field.
Undergraduate Students attending Miami Regional University’s Nursing Program are eligible to apply for this scholarship, which is awarded by the Scholarship Committee. To apply, the student must fulfill the following requirements:
Student must submit a scholarship application and essay to the Office of Financial Aid.
The scholarship must be used toward tuition or books for the Associate of Science in Nursing degree or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
The student must have attended the University for thirty weeks after his/her start date to receive the scholarship fund as an application to tuition.
If the student withdraws from the University, the scholarship money will be forfeited back to the University.
To be eligible, the student must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.3 or higher. Award amounts may vary.
Partners in Health Scholarship
As of January 5, 2015, a scholarship for students pursuing a career in health care is available to students. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition cost assistance for students enrolled in a health care program at Miami Regional University. Scholarship amounts are determined by a Scholarship meeting and the remaining tuition balance. Fees are to be paid by the students. To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
Student must apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in a health care program.
Student must meet all the Admission and Graduation requirements.
Student must be employed in the Health Care field and deemed to be demonstrating career potential by employer, to be considered.
Limit one (1) scholarship per affiliation/per program
The remaining tuition balance and fees are to be paid by the student
Student must maintain a minimum of 3.3 GPA for each term throughout the entire program. Loss of 3.3 GPA voids the scholarship.
A student may reapply once after withdrawing due to extenuating circumstances. Upon reapplication, the scholarship committee will review the application and decide whether to approve or deny it.
Allied Science Scholarship
As of March 18, 2025, a scholarship for those with a bachelor’s degree with a need for prerequisite classes for possible enrollment in the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing program is available to students. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition cost assistance for students with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree but who need prerequisite classes to enroll in the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing program at Miami Regional University. This scholarship covers the outstanding tuition balance (up to $8,265) for the prerequisite classes before beginning the Direct Entry Master of Science Nursing program. To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
Student has a bachelor’s degree
Student must apply for the scholarship before enrolling in the prerequisite classes.
Student completes all required prerequisite classes at MRU.
Student is accepted into the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing program at MRU.
Student must have met all the graduation requirements for the Nursing program.
Elio Grillo Student Scholarship
As of August 13, 2018, a scholarship for international students with a need for IEPOC is available to students. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition cost assistance for foreign educated students transitioning from IEPOC into a degree program at Miami Regional University. This scholarship covers the full tuition balance (up to $5,418.00) for all IEPOC classes taken prior to beginning a degree program at Miami Regional University. To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
Apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in a degree program.
Satisfy all program admission requirements.
Student must complete IEPOC 6 at MRU.
Student must have met all the graduation requirements for a degree program.
Student is responsible for all other fees, tuition, and balance
Miami Regional University Business Professional Scholarship
As of April 9, 2019, graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in Business Administration at Miami Regional University are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition assistance for selected graduate students enrolled at Miami Regional University. Scholarship amounts will cover the tuition cost for the entire program with a maximum tuition amount of $5,000.00.
To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
Apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in a degree program.
Satisfy all program admission requirements.
Scholarship is applied to tuition only.
Student is responsible for all other fees, tuition, and balance
A minimum of a 3.3 GPA for each term must be maintained throughout the entire program. Students who fail to meet the 3.3 GPA for any one academic term shall be placed on probationary status for the scholarship. Students on scholarship probation must meet the 3.3 GPA requirement the following term in order to maintain the scholarship. Failure to meet the 3.3 GPA requirement for a second term will result in loss of the scholarship and the student will be responsible for the balance.
Dr. Angel Garcia Sousa Scholarship
As of November 5, 2020, foreign professional graduate students pursuing a Master of Nursing in the Direct Entry program at Miami Regional University are eligible to be considered for the Dr. Angel Garcia Sousa Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide program cost assistance for graduate students enrolled at Miami Regional University. The scholarship amount is $750.00 to be paid in the final semester of the program.
After having worked as a Medical Doctor in Cuba, Dr. Garcia Sousa had to start his career again in South Africa, and then again in the United States, reaching his goal to become a Doctor in Nursing Practice and Family Nurse Practitioner. Miami Regional University was blessed to have Dr. Garcia Sousa among its faculty and leadership. Dr. Garcia Sousa’s dream of further advancing his skills and practice came to a sudden end when he passed away unexpectedly, leaving those who knew him with the remembrance of a great man who was always there for anyone who needed medical assistance. This scholarship is named in his honor.
The Dr. Angel Garcia Sousa Scholarship will be awarded to foreign professionals who, like Dr. Garcia Sousa, have had to start over in the United States. Students receiving this scholarship have demonstrated a passion for saving lives and providing comfort to those in pain. Their passion motivates them to overcome obstacles such as economic difficulties, a new language, different medical protocols, stricter regulations, being a student again, and many other challenges faced by foreign professionals.
Dr. Garcia Sousa conducted his professional and personal life with compassion and generosity, offering his time, heart, and commitment, while maintaining strict standards of providing quality service and instruction. He was a strict follower of the Hippocratic oath and supported those who followed their calling to serve others in the healthcare field. The recipient of this scholarship should embody these qualities of achievement, service, and a vision for a better humanity through honest dedication to serving others in the healthcare field.
To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
Apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in the program.
Submit a 500-to-750-word essay and 2 letters of recommendation
Satisfy all program admission requirements.
Scholarship amount of $750 to be paid during the final semester of the Direct Entry program.
Must have a 3.3 GPA at the end of each semester.
All other fees, tuition and balance are to be paid by the student.
Pioneer Scholarship
As of July 25, 2018, graduate students pursuing doctoral study in nursing at Miami Regional University may apply for this scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition assistance for doctoral students enrolled at Miami Regional University. Scholarship amounts may cover up to a maximum of $10,000 toward tuition for the entire program.
To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
Apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in the doctoral program.
Satisfy all program admission requirements.
Scholarship is applied to tuition only.
All other fees, tuition and balance are paid by the student.
A minimum of a 3.3 GPA for each term must be maintained throughout the entire program. The student may have less than a 3.3 once during the program and will be placed on probation for the scholarship. Students on scholarship probation must meet the 3.3 the following term in order to maintain the scholarship. Failure to meet the 3.3 GPA requirement for a second term will result in loss of the scholarship and the student will be responsible for the balance.
MRU Partners in Educational Administration Scholarship
As of April 29, 2019, graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in educational administration at Miami Regional University may apply for this scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition assistance for graduate students enrolled at Miami Regional University. Scholarship amounts may cover up to a maximum of $5,000.00 toward tuition for the entire program.
To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
Apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in a degree program.
Satisfy all program admission requirements.
Scholarship is applied to tuition only.
All other fees, tuition and balance are paid by the student. If the student loses the scholarship the student will be responsible for the remaining balance.
A minimum of a 3.3 GPA for each term must be maintained throughout the entire program.
Students who fail to meet the 3.3 GPA for one academic term, shall be placed on probationary status for the scholarship. Students on scholarship probation must meet the 3.3 GPA requirement the following term in order to maintain the scholarship. Failure to meet the 3.3 GPA requirement for a second term will result in loss of scholarship. Failure to meet the 3.3 GPA requirement for a second term will result in loss of the scholarship and the student will be responsible for the balance.
Scholarship Bachelor’s in Applied Behavioral Analysis
As of February 27, 2024, students pursuing a bachelor’s in applied Behavior Analysis at Miami Regional University may apply for this scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition assistance for students enrolled at Miami Regional University. Scholarship amounts may cover up to a maximum of $5,000 toward tuition for the entire program.
To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
Apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in the program.
Satisfy all program admission requirements.
Scholarship is applied to tuition only.
All other fees, tuition and balance to be paid by the student
A minimum of a 3.3 GPA for each term must be maintained throughout the entire program.
The student may have less than a 3.3 once during the program and will be placed on probation for the scholarship. Students on scholarship probation must meet the 3.3 the following term in order to maintain the scholarship. Failure to meet the 3.3 GPA requirement for a second term will result in loss of the scholarship and the student will be responsible for the balance.
Nursing the Future Scholarship
As of December 15, 2022, students with an active registered nursing license with a need for prerequisite classes for the RN to BSN Nursing Program may apply for this scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition assistance for students in the RN to BSN program. The scholarship is up to $291 per credit. To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
Have an Active Registered Nurse License.
Satisfy all admissions requirements for the RN to BSN Nursing program.
Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as per the University’s catalog throughout the program. Failure to satisfy SAP will result in loss of the scholarship and the student will be responsible for the balance.
Students must have satisfied all graduation requirements for the RN to BSN Nursing program for the scholarship to be paid.
International Professionals Scholarship
As of December 8, 2023, international students pursuing a degree at Miami Regional University may apply for this scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition cost assistance for international students enrolled at Miami Regional University. Scholarship amounts will cover from $1,000 up to a maximum of $10,000 toward tuition for the entire program. To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
Apply for the scholarship prior to enrolling in the program.
Satisfy all program admission requirements.
Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 or equivalent
Submit a 500-word essay and 2 letters of recommendation
Students may be considered for a scholarship after their first semester. Scholarships will be available to be awarded after the student has completed their program in the last semester.
All other fees, tuition and balance are to be paid by the student.
A minimum of a 3.3 GPA for each term must be maintained throughout the entire program. Failure to maintain the 3.3 GPA requirement will result in loss of the scholarship and the student will be responsible for the balance.
MRU Community Partnership Scholarship
This scholarship provides tuition cost assistance for students enrolled in a program at Miami Regional University who are members of the University’s community partner list.
Effective March 20, 2024, Miami Regional University launched a Community Partners Scholarship to students enrolled in a program at Miami Regional University who are a member of the University’s community partner list. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition cost assistance. Scholarship amounts range from $2,500.00 to a maximum of $6,500.00 toward tuition cost for their entire program. To be considered for this scholarship, the candidate must meet the following requirements:
Be enrolled in an MRU program.
Be a member of a Community Partner organization.
Recommendation letter required from the Partner organization.
A minimum of a 3.3 GPA for each term must be maintained throughout the entire program. Loss of 3.3 GPA per term will disqualify student.
